Lice has been detected!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

A case of head lice has been detected in your child’s class. Anyone can get head lice... mainly through direct head-to-head contact but also from sharing hats, brushes and other personal items. Head lice are a problem in many communities and do not reflect poor hygiene or social status. Please do your part to prevent the spread of this communicable condition by checking your child(ren) daily for the next few weeks, and on a regular basis thereafter. Lice infestation is much easier to treat if caught early. If you should discover a case of head lice, please notify your child’s school, child care center or camp. Notify the parents of your child’s playmates. This is the best way to protect your family and community. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Mrs. Wright via email alyssa.wright@onslow.k12.nc.us, or the National Pediculosis Association at npa@headlice.org or visit www.headlice.org.
Thank you for your coorperation!

2016-2017 Weekly Homework Assignments

Hello Parents/Guardians!

This year, the Adaptive Classroom will have weekly homework assignments for students to complete. Homework assignments will be provided to students on Monday and placed in the “Return to School” section of their Folder. Students will have one week to complete these assignments and will not be required to turn in their homework until the following Monday. Each week, a guideline will be provided to provide a brief description of the week’s assignments in addition to the due date. In our classroom instruction and assignments, we understand each student has a different set of skills and goals. Students will not be graded for accuracy on their homework but rather for completion and participation. Please feel free to work Hand-Over-Hand with your student to practice writing skills and coloring skills. In the event your student is unable to read, please take the opportunity to read to your student for the ten minute time frame five times each week. Your student will enjoy the experience and will be able to practice skills we are working on in class!

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Wright via email, alyssa.wright@onslow.k12.nc.us, or on the telephone, (910) 347-2738 Ext. 28120. Thank you for your attention to this matter and have a wonderful day!

PBIS Conduct Cards

Hello Parents/Guardians!

Dixon Middle School has implemented a school wide program to reward positive student behaviors per class period called the “PBIS Conduct Card”. Student receive a special color based on their behavior for each class they attend including their Exploratory classes. In order to include our students in Exploratory classes, each Adaptive student will be provided a weekly PBIS Conduct Card. While we understand not all students will fully grasp the concept of the PBIS Conduct Card, the addition of the PBIS Conduct Card will allow students to be included in activities with their peers. Before providing students with their PBIS Conduct Cards, our classroom voted to earn stickers rather than a blank space to showcase their “GREEN: GO ZONE” behaviors. For each sticker your child receives, they will earn a point. If the letter “B” is circled, your student is in the “BLUE: WARNING ZONE” and will not receive a point for the class period. If the letter “Y” is circled, your student is in the “YELLOW: CAUTION ZONE” and will not receive a point for the class period. If the letter “R” is circled, your student is in the “RED: NO ZONE” and will not receive a point for the class period in addition to Parent Contact from a Teacher. We look forward to encouraging positive behaviors and rewarding students for all their hard work! If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Wright via email, alyssa.wright@onslow.k12.nc.us, or telephone, (910) 347-2738 Ext. 28120.
