Welcome to 8th Grade

Welcome to 8th Grade

 Important Info for all:

  • Onslow County Schools now uses a 10 point grading scale.
  • DMS uses the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System) for behavior management schoolwide
  • School Fees are now paid to individual teachers ~ You will need to write separate checks for each Exploratory. EACH teachers will collect Instructional Supply ($5.00) and Laptop Insurance ($25.00)
  • 8th graders are issued a laptop computer
  • Please make sure that laptops are charged at night. It is not a good idea to bring powercords to school.
  • You can access grades at any time using PowerSchools. Please contact the school for access information. Every student has a PowerSchool log in.
  • NO FOOD OR DRINKS ALLOWED IN ANY CLASSROOM. Students do not have access to a water fountain on the 8th grade hall. Please bring a clear water bottle. (NOT tinted) Water bottles can be purchased at school in the mornings during homeroom.

Important Info for my classes:

  • Students will be using their laptops daily in my classes
  • I post all assignments / daily expectations on the electronic agenda
  • I use Study Island, Discovery Education and other on-line resources. Students that can not access the internet at home will need to manage their time wisely and complete these assignments at school.
  • Students need a single subject spiral notebook for science and we do a lot of "creative" assignments; markers, crayons and colored pencils will come in handy!

Over the first few days of school, I will will focus on 8th grade policy and procedures.

Hopefuly, we will get our computers during the first week of school and settle in to using them on a daily basis in class.

Office 365 will become our main "tool" for communication and all students will be expected to maintain the digital agenda.

I do not mind emails, text messages or phone calls. (Please make sure if you text that you include your name. Also, I check my emails regularly in the mornings but may not check in the evenings ~ if the message is urgent, please text.)
